In a harrowing turn of events during the 2025 Los Angeles Palisades fire, Decoy, the beloved dog of baseball star Shohei Ohtani, was rescued from the advancing flames. The incident occurred as wildfires rapidly spread through the Palisades area, prompting emergency evacuations and swift action from first responders.

Ohtani, known for his remarkable achievements on the baseball field, was away at a game when the fires encroached upon his residence. Decoy, a Nederlandse kooikerhondje who has garnered his own fanbase after participating in ceremonial first pitches and public appearances alongside Ohtani, was at home when the evacuation orders were issued.

Upon learning of the imminent danger to his property and pet, Ohtani immediately contacted local authorities, expressing deep concern for Decoy's safety. Firefighters and animal rescue teams were dispatched to the scene, navigating treacherous conditions to reach the athlete's home.

After a tense search, rescuers located Decoy hiding in a safe area of the house, seemingly aware of the danger outside. The dog was safely evacuated and transported to a secure location, where he was later reunited with Ohtani. Both the athlete and his pet were visibly relieved and grateful for the successful rescue.

The Los Angeles Palisades fire has been one of the most devastating in recent years, with numerous homes destroyed and thousands of residents displaced. The rescue of Decoy has provided a heartening moment amid the widespread destruction, highlighting the dedication and bravery of the city's emergency responders.

Ohtani expressed his gratitude in a statement: "I am incredibly thankful to the firefighters and rescue teams who risked their lives to save Decoy. Their courage and commitment mean the world to me and my family."

As the community begins the arduous process of recovery and rebuilding, stories like Decoy's rescue serve as reminders of hope and resilience in the face of adversity.
